They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If you do something great, people will start to copy it because they think it’s great, too.
Sometimes people will put their own spin on it and it’ll turn out amazingly. Sometimes it’ll turn out horribly. Other times, it’ll turn out so well that everyone thinks that version is better than yours, or worse– they’ll forget yours ever even existed.
One classic example of this is the song “I Will Always Love You,” famously sung by Whitney Houston, but originally recorded by Dolly Parton. Now, Whitney’s version isn’t necessarily better than Dolly’s, but it certainly was memorable enough to cause people to forget all about its predecessor.
While many artists and musical groups will just record an acoustic cover of a song and call it good, others go above and beyond and put their own mark on the track. You know, give it some originality.
(Granted, sometimes the acoustic thing does end up working out pretty well.)
Bastille are the industry cover song giants, often combining multiple songs into one insanely impressive mashup, but there are plenty of other bands who’ve knocked it out of the park, as well.
We went ahead and compiled a playlist of all of our Alternative Echo approved covers, featuring musical acts like All Time Low, OneRepublic, Panic! At The Disco, Twenty One Pilots, and more.
This is a dynamic playlist and new tracks will be added as we discover them.
