This mashup by Bastille will be the best thing you hear this week

When artists cover songs, they typically only change a couple things, like instrumentation or what key they sing it in. While some covers can be amazing, others fall flat (literally and figuratively).

Bastille is not your typical band, though.

When this group of Brits decide to cover something, it’s never a simple process. No, they have to combine as many songs as possible into one mashup, creating something mind-blowing and jaw dropping. We’ve all heard their incredible take on Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop,” bringing together the former Disney star’s hit single and her dad’s “Achy Breaky Heart,” while somehow incorporating Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” As great as that was, Bastille really outdid themselves this time.

At the BBC Radio 1’s Academy, Bastille took the stage with their usual lineup, along with a gospel choir, to cover not one, not two, but six different songs in their performance of what they call “Drop It Like It’s Royal,” a mashup of:

  • “Royals” by Lorde
  • “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” by Beyonce
  • “Drop It Like It’s Hot” by Snoop Dogg
  • “Only Girl (In The World)” by Rihanna
  • “You’ve Got The Love” by Florence + The Machine
  • “Roar” by Katy Perry

Whew. That’s a lot. But believe me when I say that the blending together of these six songs is the most beautiful mashup that’ll ever hit your eardrums, perfectly packaged in a 3 minute, 53 second long performance.

See for yourselves in the video down below.

Meanwhile, Bastille have been hard-core teasing the release of a music video for their song, “Glory” on social media in recent days, including various stills from what we can assume is the final product.

Bastille will be spending the summer on the road, playing shows and festivals all around the globe, including the Reading and Leeds Festivals, and a small tour on the East Coast. All the while, they’ll be working on their third studio album, as hinted in this tweet:

Whatever Dan Smith and crew are planning, let’s hope there isn’t another three year gap between albums. Honestly, though, we’d wait much longer if we had to. Masterpieces like theirs aren’t built in a day.
